Welcome to the website of the Netherlands Drugs Policy Foundation

The Netherlands Drugs Policy Foundation consists of volunteers with different social and political backgrounds.
The Foundation is convinced that the current drug policy does not work and that a better policy is conceivable and feasible.
The problems regarding illegal drugs that society is presently confronted with, such as drug-related problems in deprived neighbourhoods and in border towns and cities, organized and drug-related crime, rave deaths, (cocaine) body packers are, first and foremost, caused by the prohibition of drugs, and much less so by drug use itself.
The Netherlands Drug Policy Foundation aims to change the present drug policy into a policy that does deal with vital matters such as public health, safety, the rule of law and individual autonomy in a more sensible way.
As long as there are drugs, people will use them. In that sense it does not make a difference whether it is coffee or heroin, and whether the sale of the particular drug is regulated or in the hands of dealers who operate outside the law.
Prohibition is not a solution. Regulation is necessary if we are truly worried about the consequences of drug use in our society.
